4 Questions You Should Ask at Your SAT Prep Center

Grade Potential Tutoring

When choosing a SAT prep center, it is important to make sure that you are on the same page in terms of your student’s academic goals. The test prep center should be able to identify and help to remedy the areas in which your student struggles, provide motivation, and instill a sense of accountability into your student. You want to be confident that your Center Director and tutors will help you in all of these areas.

“Do you customize your study plans for each student?”

Each student struggles and excels in different areas of the SAT, so a one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work in SAT prep any more than it does in school.  Avoid group classes with one teacher lecturing to the same material to ten or fifteen students.  Your student wouldn’t get the individualized tutoring necessary to maximize their SAT score.  The best test prep includes individualized material and instruction to match your student’s needs.

At Education One, you’ll begin with a SAT diagnostic test and report that will provide a detailed breakdown of how your student stands on each type of question within each of four SAT test sections.   That diagnostic report will also give a recommended number of instruction hours for each section, as the start of a customized study plan.  We’ll then use material selected to match your student’s level of need, presented by an expert tutor offering individualized tutoring.

“Do you have flexible scheduling for SAT prep?”

Today’s students are very busy with schoolwork, extracurriculars, and maybe even part-time jobs.  For that reason, we offer flexible scheduling to meet the needs of the busiest students.  Does your student need evening study after school?  No problem.  Saturday mornings?  You’ve got it.  Sunday afternoons?  We’re open and ready to teach!  A couple of hours here and there when time permits?  We’ll do our best to make it work!  Ask our Center Director to help create a schedule that works for you.

“Do you have specialized SAT prep curriculum?”

Most SAT tutoring companies and private tutors use only off-the-shelf prep books for material, and do not have customized curriculum for each student’s level of need. High performing students get questions that are too easy, and struggling students don’t have enough material to work on.  We’ve hired a team of analysts and curriculum writers to pore over real SAT tests and then create plenty of realistic practice questions, reading passages, and simulated exams for each student level, to make certain every student gets the level of instruction and practice they really need.

“Do you provide homework practice?”

The most effective form of SAT prep incudes a combination of expert instruction and focused practice.  Our tutoring sessions are the main source of improvement, but homework is also a critical component of test prep.  Your student will receive a small amount of homework each day, which may reinforce areas covered in class, or perhaps introduce a new topic.  We’d like the student to complete the homework before returning for the next session, but we also understand that other obligations may make that difficult.  No problem.  Unfinished homework can be the first item covered in the next scheduled session.
