SAT Prep – Last Minute Instructions

Online Tutoring Jobs

Each year without fail, millions of high school sophomores and juniors send themselves into a frenzy as they begin their preparation for the SAT. SAT prep is a serious matter, and the weight that the outcome of this test carries can feel immense. There’s a lot of pressure to succeed, as one’s higher education ambitions can be drastically impacted by their final score.

If you enrolled in SAT prep at Education One early enough, you’re ready.  You’ve received expert coaching for at least several months, completed thousands of practice problems, and taken a couple of practice tests.  You’re ready. The real test is Saturday.  Now what?

SAT Prep – The Day Before

Get up by 6am the day before the SAT exam.  That’s probably not too hard to manage, because you’re getting up for school anyway.  Have breakfast.  Go to school.  After school, come home and do a SAT practice section or two if you like, but do NOT spend all night studying.  You’re ready and confident.

Make sure you have your SAT Admission Ticket, ID, pencils, calculator and a snack ready for the next morning. Check your admission ticket address and make sure you know where the testing center is located. Have dinner, and then do something relaxing. Do NOT study late, or stay out late with friends.  Let your body and mind unwind, and then go to bed on time or a little early.

Get a Good Night’s Sleep

One of the most important factors in your SAT score will be whether you are well rested and focused when you sit down to take the test.  Go to bed on time the night before, or a little early.  If you normally take a shower or bath before bed, to that. Do not take any sleep aids, unless that is a regular part of your nightly habit, because sleep aids can leave you groggy the next morning when you need to be mentally sharp.

The Morning of the SAT Test

Get up around 6am or a little earlier.  If you normally take a shower or bath in the morning, do that.

Have a good breakfast.  You need fuel in your stomach to feed your brain through the morning.  Some protein and some carbs are best, but it’s generally a good idea to have whatever breakfast you normally like to eat.  Avoid high sugar cereals, however, as that sugar rush won’t get you through the entire morning.

Wear comfortable clothing, but be prepared for either a hot or cold classroom – you don’t know what you might end up with during the exam. Take or wear a sweater or jacket that you can put on or remove, as needed.

Before you leave the house, make sure you have your SAT Admission Ticket, ID, pencils, calculator and a snack for the breaks.  Leave early enough to arrive at the testing site by 7:30am. If you arrive after 8am, you may be turned away and not be allowed to take the test, so it’s better to be a little early, rather than end up being late.

If you have time, visit the restroom, get a sip of water and then take your seat.  Relax.  You’ll do great!

After the Test

Congratulations, you are completely finished with your SAT prep and have received a great score on the test!  Now it’s time to make sure your scores were sent to the universities where you’re planning to apply, by logging into the College Board website to verify.
